PALM SIZED PC'S FOR HOSPITALS SDI has programmed a handheld Compaq Aero 1500 to become a bedside medication and patient management tool. Using Visual Basic for Windows CE, we were able to integrate the handheld with a bar code scanner and a wireless IEEE 802.11 transceiver. Using this adapted hand held, the car giver scans the patient's bar-coded identification bracelet to ensure the correct identity of the patient. A visual photo and distinguishing statistics of the patient are displayed. In addition, medications are positively identified via bar code. A photo of the medication is displayed along with an audio enunciation of the medication itself. SDI is currently in conversation with the Pensacola Naval Hospital for the possible use this device in combat hospitals. AUTOMATED CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR Under contract with the VA Hospital System, SDI has written a software tool which substantially increases the speed and accuracy of construction projects. The software has been deployed to all 172 VA Hospitals. The tool allows construction estimators to easily navigate a commercial construction cost database. The software takes care of the complex calculations and compilations that make up a construction project application. Advanced features include square footage estimating, assembly estimating, and geographic cost adjustments. THUNDERBIRD COMMUNICATIONS TRAILER The USAF Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team contracted SDI to create a deployable trailer that facilitated their aviation performances. This tow trailer was built by SDI from the tires up. It included the following subsystems: PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR AUDIO SYSTEM; this subsystem used wireless technology to deliver professional quality music and narration over an area of 150 acres. Amidst wind, jet noise, and crowd noise, the narrators would enhance the spectators' experience by providing high quality narration and music. AVIATION RADIO COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM: this subsystem had a six channel UHF/VHF radio set. When the Thunderbirds perform, they take total control of the airspace. This means that they must have the ability to communicate with all aircraft performers and any aircraft that would be in the nearby area. The subsystem allowed for select-cast, multicast, simulcast, and intercom. AUTOMATED WEATHER ASSESSMENT: During precision flight, it is imperative that the pilots be aware of current pressure, temperature, and wind direction and velocity. This subsystem provided this information directly to the pilots from the ground in very precise electronic packets of information. The entire trailer is self contained with redundant power generators. It is designed to tied down in all USAF cargo aircraft and complies with all cargo master requirements. The trailer was designed to be fully deployed and operational for show time within two hours after landing. AIRBORNE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT (ARIA) The ARIA is a specially adapted aircraft used to guide satellite space launches. SDI created an airborne computer system that was built to be compatible with the airborne environment of special power, high humidity, high vibration. SDI also developed the software that ran on this computer that would direct the aircraft's radar antennae toward the horizon point of where the launch vehicle was expected to appear. All heading, bearing, and azimuth calculations were performed and the appropriate antenna directives were sent by the software. Once the software acquired the signal of the launch vehicle, a user notification was given and manual tracking took over. This software and hardware effort utilized National Instruments LabView, C++, PCM 1553 Interfacing, GPS signal importing. |
